Welcome from Feralpunk

Well, I've been going through all my old tapes and records, and slowly digitizing all the stuff that's either a bootleg of a gig, an old demo or just no longer available. I was occasionally sharing it in other forums and blogs but, largely inspired by the most excellent New Improved Live And Otherwise blog thought I would start my own up as a central place to share by obscurities with the world.
The name of the blog is the name of the metal/punk/industrial night I used to run at the Egypt Cottage in Newcastle, resurrected here for old time's sake.
Feel free to repost anything you find or to ask for a re-up if the link has gone dead.
Also feel free to leave any comments you may have about the music or the blog.
Enjoy!

Spellbound - Breaking The Spell and Rockin' Reckless

Two forgotten gems for you here. Sweden's Spellbound could've been massive, Kerrang! deemed them "without a doubt, the best metal band Scandinavia have EVER produced" when reviewing their debut, Breaking The Spell, and despite the terrible band image (this was the mid eighties) they were absolutely splendid. I picked my copy up at the legendary Pink Panther records in Workington and played it to death.
The band broke up after the release of their second album Rockin' Reckless, partly, I think to a lack of interest from the press but also I do seem to remember something about the drummer having to go to jail for two years rather than do his national service.
Ah well, here they both are.

New Model Army - Demos For Thunder And Consolation

Apologies for the odd crackle and pop in this, it's an old record that's been well played.
This is a great little bootleg with alternate mixes, unreleased tracks and even a cracking live version of Vengeance to finish it off. I've got more NMA and related stuff than anything else I think so if you like them keep watching this space.

1. Green And Grey
2. Ballad 2 (Unreleased)
3. Family
4. The World
5. Boogie Oogie Woogie (125mph)
6. Deadeye (Unreleased, I think, although I may have seen em do it live.)
7. Higher Wall
8. The Giants (Archway Towers, instrumental version)
9. Stupid Questions
10. Family Life
11. Vengeance (Live, Nottingham Rock City, 28/2/89)

Rich Rags - Bedlam EP 1990

I just picked this up for 3 quid in mint condition and felt I should share it!
A great little piece of sleaze rock from the early 90's. Hull's finest!

Deranged (Can) - Place Of Torment demo1989

This is the 2nd of the 2 demos that this Canadian band released and shows a great advancement in style and skill. The 1st demo was great but this sees them adopting a more deathy style and getting a whole lot tighter. Well worth a listen.

Deranged (Can) - Premonotory Nightmare demo '88

1st of 2 demos by this classic thrash metal band from Canada. They never managed a full release.

Judas Priest - Hammersmith Odeon 1981 FM broadcast

Ardkore - Apocalypso demo 1988

This lot were the original UK crossover band, they managed one album - Napalm Stix To Kids and I think one other demo - Depth Charge. This is well worth a listen, top stuff.

Members later went on to Riot Act and Spasm Gang after Ardkore changed their name to D.R. Korea and split up.

Pendemia - Widespread Epidemic Demo 1988

This is this West Cumbrian band's demo and it is an excellent one. Top notch thrash metal from back in the day. They went on to record one album "Narcotic Religion", if anyone has a copy, I'd love to hear it.

I saw them live only once at Heapos in Whitehaven, they were excellent!

Mama's Boys - - Welcome To The Garden Party - Milton Keynes Bowl - 28/6/86

Taped from the Friday Rock Show again, Mama's Boys were County Fermanagh's finest exports and a great opener to the day. Very fond memories of this set.

Magnum - Welcome To The Garden Party - Milton Keynes Bowl - 28/6/86

FM broadcast from The Friday Rock Show, even has a bit of the Legendary Tommy Vance's voice at the end of it!

Me and a bunch of mates went to this gig on the Coach from Kendal, was gloriously sunny and hot all day and a great time was had by all.

Smash Alley UK - 4 Track Demo

I think this lot were from Newcastle, and I think they supported Roxx Gang when they came over on the Things You've Never Done Before tour.... But I could be wrong about all of that!
If you like Poison, then you'll like this.

Gunfire Dance - 3 Track Demo

A band that should've been huge, I think they supported Michael Monroe on the Not Fakin' It tour, but I could be wrong... It's all a bit hazy.

Deep Switch - Demos

Fantastic demos from Norwich's finest NWOBHM band, I almost played these 2 tapes to death when I was a kid and have been listening to them non stop since I put them on my ipod.

If you like these then head over to

http://deepswitch.net/index.html

where Rev Nice, the guitarist has upped all of their recordings to be had for free alongside lots of other miscellaneous stuff and facts about the band.

Lawnmower Deth - Mowdeer Demo

The second demo from Mansfields finest comedy thrashers, I have the 1st one too but it's really not that great, more of a one man experiment with noise. This one features the full band and was produced by the legendary Andy Sneap.

Rolling Stones - Lacerated

Excellent quality soundboard recording from the 1978 Some Girls US tour

Michael Monroe - Newcastle Mayfair 18/2/90

A good quality audience recording.
I was down the front for all of this gig, the last in a fantastic weekend that had involved Michael in Manchester on the Friday followed by the Quireboys in Manchester on the Saturday followed by a drive up to Newcastle for this one. Great stuff.
